About Me
Hi! I’m Diego. I’m here to help and assist new and experienced electricians looking to get the best tools and gear possible.
I started this website as I often find myself researching tools, reading reviews, and trying to figure out what will fit my needs best. However, it was time to have a site that was 100% created for those in the electrical trade, so here we are!
I’m from Chile and moved to New Zealand 10 years ago. I’m 36 years old and have been working as an electrician since I was 18. But even before that, I was already an electronic technician. I got my electrical degree at the DUPC UC in Santiago de Chile right after finishing high school with an electronic technician intermediate degree.
My first job was installing security alarms in buses. A few years later, I was lucky enough to get my dream job at the time: traveling around Chile, installing generators to support telecommunications. I worked specifically to support mining workers, so my job consisted basically in going up the Andean mountains and getting those generators ready. By “going up the mountain” I mean even doing maneuvers with helicopters – neat!
I became a supervisor and team leader by age 22, driving around the Chilean desert with my colleagues. During this time, I also trained as a First Aider and Defensive Driver, and of course, kept my qualifications and electrical registration in Chile up to date.
Moving Overseas to Grow Professinally
When I was 24, I moved to New Zealand on a 12-month Working Holiday Visa. My end goal was to stay, so I focused on getting electrical jobs – which was challenging as I needed to validate my qualifications in the country, which was not an easy feat at all.
My electrical career in New Zealand started as a trade assistant. Over the next couple of years I did all the exams and training required to validate my overseas qualifications until I got my temporary electrical license and, later on, I became a fully Licensed Registered Electrician in New Zealand (through the Electrical Workers Registration Board – aka EWRB).
During the past 10.5 years, I’ve been working exclusively in the electrical trade, doing everything from commercial, industrial, residential (houses and buildings), and service. I’ve worked in factories, vessels, at the NZ Post, at some of the most prominent buildings in Christchurch (where I live), like the Convention Centre, and more.
Why am I telling you all this? Because it’s important to build our trust. The electrical trade is no joke! For me, it all comes down to being the best professionals we can be, which is why I’m always in high demand – the reason I started my own company 2.5 years ago. I’m not saying this to brag at all! I just want to portray that you are not getting recommendations from an improvised x but from a professional.
Again, the goal of this website is to assist you in picking the tools and gear that will gain you raving clients while keeping you safe. How we present ourselves in the trade speaks tons! We need to earn our clients’ trust as we are dealing with live energy.
