The essential ones for electricians include COMBINATION PLIERS (which I’ve always known as “Universal Pliers”, but are also known as lineman’s, side-cutting or electrician’s pliers), NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS, and DIAGONAL CUTTING PLIERS.
I’ve also included WIRE CRIMPERS as a type of plier, but not going into too much detail as you can read about these in this dedicated wire crimpers article.
Other types that are not essential, yet can be useful are slip-joint pliers and locking pliers.

Needle-nose pliers have longer jaws suited for delicate tasks or smaller spaces. Diagonal cutting/wire cutters are used to accurately snip wires and cut small nails and screws.
